There is a person on the other side of everything I make.

Collaborating with organizations around the world, I take marketing challenges and turn them into results.

Together we plan, design and build the brand that sets the standard, the website that tells the story, the images that let the product speak, and the film that lets you meet the people a program is for. On the other side, there is a pilot comparing engine upgrades, a lab manager choosing a PCR rack, and a young refugee with the desire to be creative. It’s a big job for a photograph, a web page or a marketing campaign. But they’re always up for it. And so am I.

Let’s work together

I work like any member of your team, full time, part time or by project. Send it over: the idea, the role or the problem, and together we’ll come up with a plan.

Approach

Commercial

Replaced five roles · Complete brand overhaul

I work alongside the head of marketing and the sales team to plan and make what a product is sold with: the brand, the website, the advertising and the photography. I also build the tools behind them, so the sales team can put a product on the market the day it is ready.

NGO, humanitarian

Built two nonprofits · Shot the films, built the websites

With the people who run a program, I plan the communications and make the film, photography and websites that let its own people speak. The film is only part of the experience: where it is seen and how it is presented make the difference in fundraising and in building momentum. I learned that building two nonprofits from the ground up, from the fundraising to the volunteer teams.

Storytelling

Films on four continents · Trained media professionals

Story is part of everything I do. I believe it is what gives a product or a program its meaning, and it is through story that lasting impressions are made. People may not remember the features or the cause, but they will remember the story. I have taught storytelling at universities in the US and in refugee camps in the Middle East, where students made films with nothing but a phone. What I taught there holds true everywhere: a story carries furthest when it belongs to the people in it, whether they are the engineers behind a product, the artisans preserving their culture, or the people a program is meant to serve.

Sales

$33M+ a year in B2B sales · Daimler Chrysler, LexisNexis, Target

Being a top salesperson at Hewlett-Packard for years took listening far more than selling. Listening uncovers the truth of a problem, and my success came from building the solution. Sales is not about convincing a customer to buy. It is about bringing value they understand and that supports them. That is a skill I bring to all of my work, whether it is a website that needs to leave an impression, the material a sales team reaches for to close the deal, or a campaign that answers the questions people are already asking. Work is built for a purpose, and marketing too often forgets the result it is meant to drive. Having a background in sales has always kept my work tied to the results.
